New Paper in NatGeo: Carbon fixation in the dark ocean

New paper discusses the microbial metabolisms that play a larger role in carbon fixation in the dark ocean than previously expected.

Congratulations to former postdoctoral researcher Barbara Bayer on her new paper appearing in Nature Geoscience!

Her research revealed that while nitrification is currently thought to be the primary method by which carbon fixation in the dark ocean is sustained, it actually might be other microbial metabolisms, such as heterotrophy, that play a much larger role than previously understood.

This research was also highlighted in an article by UCSB's news site, The Current. Read more about it here.
