Broadly, I'm interested in the interactions between microbial life and its environment, and using meta'omics to study these complex natural systems. Much of my past work has focused on developing techniques to analyze and visualize complex sequencing datasets. I am now applying my skill set toward investigating marine microbial transporters and nutrient trafficking in two general areas: 1) correlating the distribution of nutrient transporters with nutrient availability, and 2) using those correlations and phylogenetic relationships to aid in the identification of putative or unknown nutrient transporters in publicly available meta'omic datasets.
